Since the 96th Street station is a block from my apartment on the Upper West Side, I have taken particular notice of the construction there.
When completed, the station will have the new headhouse seen above, complete with stairway and escalator entrances leading directly to the platform and new office and control space.
The work on the $26 million project began just two years ago, necessitating all kinds of weird service changes, primarily on weekends. And the MTA says the job will be completed 20 months early well under its original $54 million budget. To all that news, three cheers!
The MTA has provided in a PDF lots of photos, diagrams and models to gladden the hearts of all commuters using the express stop and all those folks who love to peer through holes in fences into the pits of construction jobs.
